Lightning protection systems protect buildings, staff, customers, and electrical equipment from lightning strikes.

In a typical system, a series of air terminals – lightning rods, lighting conductors, or strike termination devices – are attached to a building. In the event of a lightning strike, the lightning should be drawn to the air terminals, then safely conducted through a wire to the ground, rather than passing down through the building and potentially injuring staff or customers, or damaging equipment.

Lightning strikes to your facility can cause the following:

  • Injury to staff or customers
  • Loss of life
  • Damage to electrical equipment
  • Fires

Lightning protection systems need to be tested regularly to ensure they are ready to protect your building’s occupants and contents from lightning strikes.

We will test your lightning protection system to ensure it is functioning as intended. This testing includes:

  • cContinuity testing
  • Visual inspections
  • Soil resistance testing

This testing is performed in accordance with Australian standard AS/NZS 1768:2007 (“Lightning protection”), which provides guidelines for protection of people and property from lightning.
